What the AI Act is
Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, known as the AI Act, is the European law on artificial intelligence. It entered into force on 1 August 2024 and applies in stages: prohibited practices and the AI literacy duty from 2 February 2025, rules for general-purpose AI models from 2 August 2025, and most other obligations, including transparency obligations, from 2 August 2026.
How Neural Ranks uses AI
- We ask questions to third-party AI engines, such as ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and record the answers and cited sources.
- We analyse those answers with statistical and text-processing methods to measure mentions, recommendations, sentiment and sources.
- We use rules and models to prioritise the actions in the monthly plan.
- The website assistant is an automated FAQ answering system, labelled as such. It is not a person.
Classification
Neural Ranks does not engage in any practice prohibited by Article 5 and is not a high-risk AI system within the meaning of Article 6 and Annex III: it is not used to make decisions about people, such as employment, credit, education or access to essential services. Analyses concern brands and topics. We are a deployer of the third-party general-purpose AI models we use, and we do not provide general-purpose AI models.
Transparency
- We label the website assistant as automated.
- AI answers quoted in reports are presented as such, with the engine and date.
- Results marked as “sample” or “estimate” are illustrative and labelled.
- We explain the limits: AI answers are probabilistic, change over time and can contain errors, including hallucinations.
Human oversight
Metrics and the action plan support decisions. The customer always decides what to publish, change or communicate. The team regularly reviews the methods, reference questions and analysis quality.
Data and third-party models
In requests to AI engines we send questions about brands, products and topics, with no personal data. We favour API access under terms where, according to the providers’ conditions, the data sent is not used to train their models. We do not use customer data to train models of our own.
AI literacy
People working at Neural Ranks are trained on how the AI systems we use work, their limits and their risks, in line with Article 4 of the AI Act.
